Athletic Therapy at ProActive
What is athletic therapy?
Certified Athletic Therapists are best known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the injuries of all Canadians, whether on the field or in the clinic.
Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist's goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.
How can an Athletic Therapist help me?
Treatment with our Athletic Therapist looks like:
Assessment: We'll go over your health history, discuss your chief complaint, and go through testing using a variety of assessment tools to ultimately conclude what is the primary cause for your concerns.
Rehabilitation/Injury Prevention: Following your assessment, we'll begin on the plan we developed, constantly adapting to your needs and re-evaluating your progress and stage of healing. We'll begin by getting you to a pain free stage to make your everyday life easier and return you to what you love most, then progress to preventing re-injury of the structure(s) of concern. From here our ultimate goal is to take a step further than the average rehabilitation, and prevent the occurrence of new injuries through getting you to peak functional movement.
Patient Education/Return to Life: The most important part of treatment is ensuring you have an understanding of not only what the cause of your injuries were, but how to prevent them in the future, and the reasoning for every step in between. By using a sport-specific model of treatment it is ensured you can return to any and every goal you have in the future, pain-free and at peak functionality.
