Therapeutic Ultrasound in St. Catharines
What is ultrasound therapy?
Ultrasound therapy utilizes sound waves to deliver stimulation and heat to targeted areas of soft tissue, like muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This treatment application differs from the ultrasound imaging used for pregnancy or medical diagnosis. Your ProActive therapist applies ultrasound with a handheld device, gently gliding it over the targeted area.
The delivered sound waves are intended to improve blood flow, reduce pain and stiffness, break down scar tissue, and more. You won’t feel anything other than the gel used for treatment, and possibly a slight warmth. Ultrasound treatment is very comfortable.
How can ultrasound therapy help me?
The delivered sound waves from ultrasound can have two main effects – thermal and micro-massage.
Thermal effect. The primary function is to generate deep heat within the tissues. This increased warmth can improve blood flow, promote tissue healing, and potentially reduce muscle stiffness and pain.
Micro-massage effect. The sound waves can also cause microscopic vibrations, creating a subtle massage-like effect. This may help break down adhesions and promote better mobility within the treated tissues.
What are conditions ultrasound therapy treats?

Tendinitis
Bursitis
Arthritis
Plantar fasciitis
Joint pain
